A 21-year-old man has been charged with the murder of three-year-old Palmerston North girl Kash McKinnon.
Paramedics found Kash with critical head injuries at a Hulme Street, Palmerston North, house on August 19 after a visitor called an ambulance.
She died in Palmerston North Hospital the next day.
Post mortem results returned last Friday revealed her injuries were non-accidental and a homicide inquiry was launched.
Kash and three other children, aged two, four and six, some of whom were her siblings, had been at the house in the care of a man, who was not her father.
Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Sheridan said Kash's parents had been told of the arrest.
The man would appear in Palmerston North District Court this afternoon. Police would oppose bail, he said.
