A man has been charged with the murder of Kim Richmond, whose body was found last week in a Waikato lake.

"This afternoon Waikato Police arrested a 45-year-old Waikato man and charged him with murder in relation to the death of Kim Louise Richmond of Arohena," police said in a statement.

The man is due to appear in the Hamilton Court tomorrow.

"Police advised Kim's family of the arrest earlier today.

"Police and the family would like to thank the public and media for their assistance during the investigation into Kim's disappearance."

Richmond, from Arohena in the Waikato, went missing almost a year ago. The 42-year-old mother of three disappeared in the early hours of July 31, 2016.

She was reportedly last seen driving a silver Ford Ranger ute away from the family's remote farm. Last week police divers discovered the ute in Arapuni Lake, with Richmond's body inside.

Richmond is to be farewelled at a funeral at 1pm tomorrow at Te Awamutu.

Kim Richmond's mother declined to comment.
