Man in coma after Auckland stabbing

A young man is in an induced coma in Auckland hospital following a stabbing on the city's North Shore last night.

Police are at an address in the suburb of Birkenhead investigating the incident in which a 25-year-old male victim received life threatening injuries to his upper right leg.

The 7pm incident followed an altercation between two men on Palmerston Rd.

The bloodied victim was rushed to Auckland hospital by ambulance and had surgery.

His condition is stable but it will be some time before police are able to talk to him.

North Shore CIB has strong leads in its search for the culprit.
