Man critical after Hastings stabbing

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being stabbed in the head in Hastings yesterday.

The 39-year-old was rushed to Hawke's Bay Hospital after police were called to a house in Raureka around 4.45pm.

Initial inquiries led police to a house in the suburb of Camberley, where a scene examination took place.

A 28-year-old Flaxmere man was arrested shortly afterwards, and has been charged with assault, police said. He was due to appear in Hastings District Court today.

Further inquiries into the stabbing are ongoing, police said.

The victim was is a critical but stable condition.
