A 25-year-old man is in a critical condition after being assaulted at a nightclub in Auckland city.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Vulcan Lane around 3.21am.
A 22 year-old labourer from Napier will appear in the Auckland District Court today charged with injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The victim was in a life threatening condition when ambulance crew arrived, northern communications shift manager Norm Ngatai said.
It is thought he had suffered serious head injuries, and was unconscious when the emergency call was made, he said.
The man was rushed to Auckland City Hospital.
