Man critically injured in fall through roof

A 22-year-old man was been critically injured falling through a roof in Taumarunui last night.

Waikato Philips Search and Rescue Trust pilot Grant Bremner said the fall occurred around midnight.

The man landed heavily onto concrete, sustaining substantial injuries.

Initial reports suggested the man fell up to six metres, Mr Bremner said.

His family were with him when emergency services arrived.

The Westpac rescue helicopter was dispatched with a paramedic and doctor on board, and the man was transported to the emergency department at Waikato Hospital, Mr Bremner said.

No further details were immediately available.
