A man has been killed after being struck by a train in Palmerston North early this morning.
Police are still working to identify the man, who is believed to be in his 40s.
Police said it was unclear if he had been walking on the tracks or fallen from an over bridge.
He was hit by a north-bound freight train on the tracks directly below the Gillespies Line over bridge just after 3am.
Police said they were "following lines of inquiry and hope to be able to release details later today".
