An 18-year-old man has died in a two-car crash at Maungatapu near Tauranga.
Police said the incident occurred on State Highway 29A about 7.30pm last night.
Three other people were taken to Tauranga hospital with moderate injuries, police said.
State Highway 29A Maungatapu was closed and diversions put in place while emergency services and the police serious crash unit were in attendance.
Police said it was too early to indicate the cause of the accident, but it was believed one of the cars crossed the centre line.
The road was re-opened about 11.30pm.
The 18-year-old man's family had been advised but his name would not be released until extended family have been informed, police said.
