A man has drowned at Hot Water Beach, in the Coromandel, this afternoon after getting into difficulty while swimming.
The man was pulled from the water but died at the scene.
Emergency services were called shortly before 4pm, a police spokesperson said.
"It appears the man had been swimming when he got into difficulty."His death will be referred to the Coroner."
