A young man has drowned while swimming at a Bay of Plenty waterfall today.
The 20-year-old got into difficulty at a swimming hole near the Kaiate Falls, about 18km south of Tauranga, Fairfax media reports.
Emergency services were called about 1:30pm, but the man died at the scene.
People are being asked to stay away from the area to allow emergency services to deal with the scene.
Police will conduct an investigation on behalf of the coroner.
