A man is dead after being hit by a train in Canterbury late last night.
The incident occurred about 11pm south of Kaiapoi, police said.
The man, in his late 20s, was struck by the train and was found dead at the scene.
Police are conducting a scene examination and the matter will be reported to the coroner.
