Man killed in crash near Fairlie

A man has died in a car crash near Fairlie in Canterbury this morning.

Police said the car went in to a ditch about 7am.

The driver and sole occupant of the car died at the scene.

Police said they would not release details of the driver until his next of kin had been advised.

Southern fire communications shift manager Murray Hurst said the accident occurred on School Road in Coal Stream, Fairlie.

He said although police were still at the scene there were no road closures in place.
