One person has been killed during a controlled scrub burn-off near Arthur's Pass in the South Island this afternoon.
Emergency services were alerted to the fire near Mt Alexander about 3.40pm today.
Police have confirmed one person was been found dead at the scene and two colleagues of the deceased were uninjured. The rural fire was a controlled scrub burn-off.
The death has been referred to the Coroner.
Police, Fire Service and WorkSafe investigations into the incident are continuing.
A further update would be made later this week once next of kin have been fully informed.
