Man missing for week found in tramping hut

A 33-year-old Nelson man missing for more than a week has been found in a tramping hut.

Rescue authorities found Jeremy Flatt in a tramping hut in the Hacket River area of Mt Richmond Forest Park around 5pm yesterday after a tip-off from two local trampers.

He survived in the tramping hut without food since going missing from Nelson Hospital on Monday last week.

Mr Flatt was treated by St John paramedics at the scene, and was then taken in the Nelson Summit rescue helicopter to Nelson Hospital for further assessment.

Sergeant Steve Savage said the man's family is happy to have him back.

"The family are obviously very pleased. To find out he's OK after being missing for seven days, they did have some pretty serious concerns for him,'' he said.

He said it's not clear why the man was missing.
