A man was in a serious condition in Thames Hospital last night after his car burst into flames following a crash in Coromandel.
The incident involved two vehicles, each containing a sole occupant.
Police closed State Highway 25 approaching the Kopu Bridge, Coromandel, and diversions were put in place until early this morning.
"Earlier in the night emergency services had responded to a two car crash resulting in one car catching fire from which its occupant suffered significant burns and was admitted to Thames hospital," police said.
Police and fire crews were investigating.
