A man has been seriously hurt after the car he was in crashed into sheep on the Kaipara Coast Highway, north-west of Auckland.
Two vehicles were involved in the incident, which happened around 6.50pm about 1km south of the intersection with West Coast Rd, a Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said.
A St John ambulance spokeswoman said one person, a male, was seriously injured and would be taken to hospital by helicopter.
No information was available about the number sheep hit or whether any animals were injured.
A fire crew is at the scene helping police direct traffic.
The Kaipara Coast Highway is also known as State Highway 16.
