Police have released the name of the man killed in an incident in Christchurch early this morning.

He was 48-year-old Guy Christian Scollay.

Detective Inspector Virginia Le Bas says Police believe the incident was family violence-related, and no-one else is being sought in connection with the death.

The 44-year old woman arrested this morning on murder charges is related to the deceased, as is the the 19-year-old male who was also present at the address.

The three were normally resident at the Edgeware Road address.

A weapon believed to have been used in the incident has been located at the scene.

Detective Inspector Le Bas says next of kin have been advised of the death, and Victim Support and police family liaison staff are working with relatives.

A forensic examination at the address will continuing this evening and tomorrow, and investigators are conducting follow-up interviews. Ms Le Bas said detectives were collecting evidence in their attempt to piece together the events leading up to the man's death.

"We're doing the investigation and just trying to establish what has actually led up to this incident," she said.

A resident near where the man was killed said she heard yelling at the home early this morning.

The neighbour said she did not go on to the street because she was concerned for her own safety.

"I just heard yelling and then I heard sirens," she said.

"We just don't need this. It's just awful."

The body of the deceased has been removed from the house this afternoon, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted tomorrow.
