A man was trapped inside a car after a head-on collision outside Palmerston North this afternoon.
The crash occurred shortly before 4.15pm at the junction of State Highway 3 and Stewart Rd between Palmerston North and Sanson, police said.
"It was reported as a head-on collision with one person trapped," said a police central communications spokeswoman.
Fire Service and ambulance personnel were at the scene and attempting to free the man from a mangled white hatchback.
He was conscious and talking to rescuers but the extent of his injuries were unknown.
The hatchback and another vehicle collided head-on, police at the scene said.
The female driver of the other vehicle walked away from the crash.
One lane of the road was blocked but no diversions are in place.
