Man's body found in Auckland car park

A homicide investigation has been launched after the discovery of the body of an unidentified man in a south Auckland car park early today.

The dead man, believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s, was found in the Otara Town Centre carpark about 4am.

Detective Inspector Pete Jones said the man, who had head injuries, was believed to have been involved in a fight earlier in the night.

`We have not been able to identify him as yet.

"It is likely this person will be missed, He won't have returned home this morning like he should have and we are hoping the public will be able to assist us in identifying him." Mr Jones described the man as Polynesian of medium to solid build with facial hair. He was wearing track suit pants.

He said police were still trying to find out who was in the fight and what it was about.

He appealed for witnesses or anyone who knew the man to call the Counties Manukau police on 261 1300.
