A Greymouth woman was terrified when a masked man dressed in black forced his way into her house last night.
Senior Constable Mike Tinnelly of the Greymouth police said the intruder barged into the Bright Street home about 11.30pm.
Mr Tinnelly said the uninvited guest, who was not known to the woman, arrived at the front door and when she went to see who was there he forced the door open, knocking the woman to the ground.
"She was not seriously injured, but she was very frightened."
The man said he was looking for a relative of the woman. He did not appear to be armed.
"After he forced his way in he kept asking where the family member was. The woman, who was home alone at the time, was very distraught," Mr Tinnelly said.
The CIB are investigating and want to hear from anyone who saw suspicious activity in the Bright Street area last night.
