Milk tanker hanging off Rakaia Bridge after crash

One person was taken to hospital after a milk tanker crashed and fell off the Rakaia River Bridge.

A car and milk tanker collided on the bridge in Canterbury just before 6.30am.

The truck is half off the bridge and a heavy crane is needed to remove it.

Police said the road was completely closed and diversions were in place.

A Fire and Emergency communications spokesman said there was no spillage of milk into the river.
