A missing Christchurch cyclist has been found safe and well, police have confirmed.

Murray Bennett left his Hillsborough home about 11.15am today and was expected home later on.

Police issued an appeal to the public for any sightings of the 67-year-old late this afternoon, as they had concerns for his health and welfare.

In a statement just after 7pm, they said Mr Bennett had been found by a member of the public in Tai Tapu and he was on his way home to his family.

Police would like to thank all those who got in touch with information and possible sightings.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
