Missing West Coast man found

A man who went missing while exploring remote areas in his four wheel drive in the West Coast has been located.

John Carruthers was reported missing after he failed to return from a four-wheel-driving trip on Thursday night, after leaving earlier that morning.

Police said they found Mr Carruthers about 5pm yesterday afternoon.

His four wheel drive vehicle was stuck in a remote area in the Hochstetter forest near Lake Ahaura and when police located his vehicle, he was no longer with it.

Police said a police dog handler was flown into the vehicle's location and was able to lead them to Mr Carruthers, who was on a remote track.

Police said Mr Carruthers was fortunate to be located so quickly.

They said he had not left any information with family about where he was heading.

Police said anyone heading to a remote location should leave information of their intended whereabouts with a responsible person and should carry suitable communications equipment.
