A woman found dead inside a crashed car at Whakamarama, near Tauranga, yesterday has been confirmed as that of missing woman Kelly Ann Sinclair.
The 25-year-old was last seen late on Sunday night by a friend in Katikati, and was planning to drive from there to Tauranga.
She was reported missing by her family on Tuesday.
A car matching the description of her blue 1997 Audi A3 was found crashed down a bank off State Highway 2 at Whakamarama yesterday, with a body inside.
Today, police confirmed it was Miss Sinclair's.
A serious crash investigation is underway to establish the cause of the crash and when it occurred, police said.
Initial investigations indicated the vehicle was moving in a direction away from Tauranga back towards Katikati when it crossed the centreline and left the road, police said.
Anyone who saw Miss Sinclair's car between Sunday and Wednesday, or has any other information that might assist the crash investigation, is asked to contact Tauranga Police on 07 577 4300.
