Motorcyclist killed in crash named

The name of a motorcyclist who died in a crash between his vehicle and a 10-tonne tractor trailer near Morrinsville on Saturday morning has been released.

Waharoa man Manolito Travis Wilson, 45, was killed when he hit the back of the tractor trailer unit as it turned into a driveway on a rural road near Walton.

Matamata-Piako road policing Sergeant Dean Kaio said Mr Wilson's death brought Waikato's road toll for 2014 to seven, compared to four for the same period last year.

"We would like to offer our sympathies to his family for their loss."

Less than 90 minutes after Mr Wilson's death, another motorcyclist on a charity ride at Ohinewai, east of Huntly, was critically injured when he failed to round a bend and hit a fence.

The accidents happened a day after a man in his 60s was injured when his motorbike and a car collided in Whangarei.
