No sign of escaped Nelson prisoner

Nelson police are still searching for a prisoner who escaped from the police station on Wednesday.

Casey Bowler-Moncur was believed to be armed and the public should not approach him, police said.

Bowler-Moncur, 44, disappeared from the back of the police station about 4.30pm Wednesday after he was arrested for several burglaries.

Senior Sergeant Grant Andrews said it was "very likely" Bowler-Moncur had stolen an unsecured 1994 green Jeep Cherokee, which had a Beretta over under shotgun and about 10 rounds of ammunition in it.

The jeep was taken from High St, not far from the police station, on Wednesday night.

Bowler-Moncur may have also stolen some clothes from another High Street property that night.

There had been no sightings of Bowler-Moncur or the jeep, Mr Andrews said.

A Nelson Police spokeswoman today said there had been no updates in the search.

Any sightings of the stolen vehicle or Bowler-Moncur should be reported immediately to the police via the 111 system, Mr Andrews said.

Police did not know if he was still in the area.

Officers around the South Island had been told to look out for him and the jeep.

Bowler-Moncur was described as a thin Caucasian, with tanned skin, about 173cm tall, unshaven and scruffy.

He was last seen wearing dark jeans, a green v-neck top, and his feet were bare.

The jeep has the registration number ZI2488.
