One dead after Christchurch crash

One person has died following a collision between a rental van and a 4-wheel-drive in Christchurch this morning.

The crash took place at the junction of Jones Rd and Dawsons Rd in Templeton, about 11.20am, police said.

One person died at the scene, police said.

Initial reports indicated a rented Toyota Estima with seven occupants was travelling along Dawsons Rd and collided with a 4x4 travelling along Jones Rd, police said.

The driver and five passengers in the Estima have been taken to Christchurch Hospital to have their injuries assessed.

The driver and sole occupant of the 4x4 was also taken to Christchurch Hospital for assessment.

Canterbury police and the serious crash unit were at the scene and investigations into the cause of the crash were ongoing.
