One person has died after a serious crash on SH2 in the Eastern Bay of Plenty near Whakatane.
Two vehicles collided at the intersection of Bell Rd and SH2 near Nukuhou, east of Whakatane.
Four people have been injured, police confirmed, and are being assessed by ambulance staff.
Police have asked motorists to avoid the area until diversions can be put in place, as traffic is backing up.
Meanwhile, four people were injured in a crash near Masterton.
Emergency services were called to the crash on Upper Waingawa Rd about 6.20pm.
A rescue helicopter had been called to the scene.
Soon after, in Auckland, a person was hit by a car in Mt Roskill.
A police spokeswoman said they were called to Hillsborough Rd about 6.40pm after a pedestrian was hit by a car.
The person was reported to be conscious and breathing. She did not have information on what injuries the person had.
