A 28-year-old woman is dead and two men are in serious conditions after a head-on crash near Paekakariki last night.
At about 9.50pm emergency services were called to the scene of the accident on State Highway 1 about 1.5 kilometres north of the turnoff to Paekakariki.
A 28-year-old Lower Hutt woman was killed, while the 50-year-old driver of the vehicle was in a serious condition in Wellington Hospital, Detective Sergeant James McKay said.
A 22-year-old Kapiti man who was driving the other vehicle was also in a serious condition in Wellington Hospital.
"Police have spoken to a number of witnesses, but are still appealing to any persons who may have seen the crash or the actions of the green Toyota Camry station wagon around the Paekakariki area shortly before the crash.''
