One person is dead after a crash involving a car transporter and a van on the West Coast this morning.
Emergency services were called to the accident in the Buller Gorge about 9am this morning, police said.
The crash involved a car transporter and a light van and occurred near the Lyall walkway, Senior Sergeant Shane Miles said.
"Sadly the sole occupant of the van passed away at the scene from injuries received in the crash."
He said police are still at the scene, investigating the cause of the crash.
State Highway 6 between Inangahua and O'Sullivan's Bridge remained closed and all traffic between the West Coast and Nelson was currently being diverted, he said.
He said the diversion was likely to remain in place until later this afternoon.
