The formal state opening of Parliament will take place next Wednesday when Governor-General Dame Patsy Reddy will read the Speech from the Throne, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says.

There are two ceremonies to open Parliament after an election.

The first is the Commission Opening next Tuesday, when MPs will be sworn in and a Speaker elected.

Ardern said the Speech from the Throne would set out the Government’s vision for a fairer, better New Zealand.
