A passenger sustained serious injuries after being thrown from a vehicle when it crashed while involved in a police pursuit in Hamilton early today.
The chase began after police tried to stop the vehicle for routine checks but the driver fled.
The fleeing vehicle hit another vehicle on Powells Street, Fairview Downs just before 3:30am.
A passenger was thrown from the fleeing vehicle and sustained serious injuries. He is in Waikato Hospital in a stable condition.
The occupant of the other vehicle was uninjured.
The driver fled the scene but was found a short time later by police.
A 20-year-old man will appear in Hamilton District Court on Monday in relation to the crash.
The Serious Crash Unit are investigating.
