A 21-year-old man is in a serious condition after becoming trapped under a bus in Wellington early this morning.
Police central communications shift inspector Mark Clausen said emergency services were called to the incident on the corner of Pirie St and Austin St in Mt Victoria at about 2.50am.
The male pedestrian was hit by a bus, and then became trapped under it, he said.
Fire Service central communications shift manager Belinda Beets said it took about 15 minutes to remove the man from under the bus.
Air bags were used to lift the bus.
Two specialised rescue trucks were called in for the job, she said.
An ambulance spokeswoman said the man had leg injuries from the incident.
He was taken to Wellington Hospital in a serious condition.
