Pedestrian injured in police chase

A woman is in hospital after being hit by a person driving a stolen Subaru during a police chase in Christchurch overnight.

A police patrol attempted to stop the car with two people in it about 1.10am in central Christchurch , Detective Sergeant John Gallagher said.

The driver immediately fled at high speed and during attempts to evade police lost control of the car and hit a 28-year-old woman crossing Cashel St, he said.

The woman suffered fractures and cuts. She was this evening in a stable condition in hospital, Mr Gallagher said.

The car hit four parked cars before stopping. Both occupants fled on foot.

Police arrested one man a short distance away and are still looking for the other person, Mr Gallagher said.

A 23-year-old man will appear in Christchurch District Court tomorrow.
