Pedestrian killed on Auckland road

Police are looking for a damaged station wagon after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle and killed in Auckland early this morning.

The male pedestrian was hit by a car about 1.20am on Great North Rd near Oakley Ave at Waterview.

Great North Rd is currently closed but it is hoped it will be re-opened for this morning's peak-hour traffic, police said in a statement shortly after 5am.

Police are looking for a silver Subaru station wagon with frontal panel damage and are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the crash or have any information about the incident.

Police say they will release no more information about the deceased man or the circumstances of the crash until the next of kin have been advised.

Diversions are in place around the closed section of Great North Rd between the motorway and Oakley Ave.
