Pedestrian killed in Christchurch named

An elderly man who died after being hit by a van in Christchurch has been named by police.

He was 83-year-old Donald Rutherford Wilson, of Amberley.

Police said it appeared Mr Wilson was crossing Stanmore Rd in Phillipstown when he was struck by a van turning right from Tuam St into Stanmore Rd, about 4pm on Thursday.

Mr Wilson was admitted to hospital but died yesterday morning.

Police had spoken to the driver of the van and inquiries were continuing to establish the circumstances of the incident, police said.
