A person is dead after being struck by a car near Christchurch this morning.
The incident happened on Maddisons Rd in Rolleston just before 5am.
The person was initially reported as critically injured, but police advised around 8.10am they had died.
A road closure was in place and the Serious Crash Unit was investigating, police said.
