Pedestrian in 'serious condition' after being hit by car

A pedestrian has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after being hit by a car in Mid Canterbury this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Walnut Ave, Ashburton, near the roundabout with West St, after the incident about 12.20pm.

Two ambulances attended the scene and treated one patient.

The person was transported to Ashburton Hospital.

Police have been contacted for comment.
