Associate Minister of Tourism Jonathan Coleman said three grants were awarded through the Tourism Facilities Grants Programme for community-based projects.
The Phar Lap Charitable Trust in Timaru was given $23,500 for information panels and bronze plaques to be installed at the Phar Lap racecourse.
The Department of Conservation in Greymouth was awarded $35,000 for interpretation signs at the Brunner mine site and the Wellington Tramway Museum on Kapiti Coast got $16,900 to build a weather protected pathway.
Dr Coleman said any project which added value to a tourism project was "important to the overall success of our tourism industry".
"These projects are designed to enhance the understanding and enjoyment of New Zealand by overseas visitors." Applications for this year's funding round close on October 1.
