Police chase in Auckland

Two teenagers in a stolen car led police on a chase around West Auckland this afternoon, eventually dumping the car and hiding in a school.

The male and female have now been arrested after the Mazda Demio they were driving travelled around the Te Atatu, Henderson and Lincoln Rd area in circles just after 4pm.

Inspector Tony Wakelin said although the male driver was not travelling at excessive speeds, his driving was dangerous at times as he drove on the wrong side of the road.

Mr Wakelin said at least five police cars were involved in the 15 minute pursuit, as well as the eagle helicopter.

"I pulled the units away from the pursuit and we had the eagle helicopter above them watching where they were going.

"They followed them to an address in Wharf Rd, Te Atatu where they dumped the vehicle and ran into the school."

Mr Wakelin said the teenagers then ran through the school and hid, but were later located and arrested.
