Police in high speed chases

Early morning high speed chases in Auckland and Wellington.

Police have been involved in a high speed chases in the lower North Island and Auckland.

Inspector Ian Brooker said three vehicles had been stolen this morning from the Rosedale Road area.

He said police pursued a black Mitsubishi evolution car out to Hobsonville into the air force area.

The men were allegedly involved in the theft of three Mitsubishi evolution cars stolen in the area.

"We put spikes down at the exit of the subdivision and were able to apprehend the men,'' he said.

He said the number plates on the vehicles had been swapped.

"We suspect the theft of the three vehicles is connected,''he said.

Police were involved in another three high speed chases in the lower North Island over night.

In Woodville, police chased a group who dumped their gear and tried to get away on foot.

Their vehicle rolled into a police car and the group were arrested later.

Police pursued another vehicle in Gisborne.

It failed to take a corner and ended up crashing through a front lounge of a house.

The elderly woman in the house is shaken up but unhurt.

The third chase was in Palmerston North at 3.30am. Two sets of road spikes eventually brought it to a halt.
