Police investigating attempted abduction in Morrinsville

Police are investigating an attempted abduction in the Waikato town of Morrinsville early yesterday.

Detective Sergeant Rod Carpinter said a 20-year-old woman reported that a car pulled over next to her as she walked to work along Thames St at about 5.30am

"She was approached by a group of men in a car and one of the occupants got out and tried to force her into the vehicle," Mr Carpinter said

"Managing to break free of her attacker's grasp she fled the scene and alerted police." Mr Carpinter said although it was an isolated incident, police were concerned about the obvious sexual overtones involved during the altercation

He said the car involved was described as a white Mitsubishi four-door, possibly a Lancer or Galant, with four people inside

Police urged anyone who may have seen the car to contact them as it may provide a vital breakthrough in the investigation.
