Police name boy killed in accident

A 7-year-old boy died after being struck by a reversing vehicle at a rural property near Invercargill on Saturday.

Invercargill police named the boy yesterday as Brodie Jacob Molloy.

Sergeant Ian Temple, of Invercargill, said emergency services were called to a rural property near Wallacetown, about 13km west of Invercargill, just after 1pm.

The incident took place in a driveway area and it appeared the vehicle was being driven by a family member, he said.

The boy was taken to Southland Hospital, but attempts to revive him were ''sadly unsuccessful'', Sgt Temple said.
