Nelson residents are being told to prepare for a downpour with a severe weather warning in place in northwest parts of the region.
A front moving up the West Coast of the South Island is expected to bring 150mm of rain to Nelson from tonight through to tomorrow evening.
The warning has prompted Nelson City Council to ask residents to clear leaves and other rubbish from stormwater grilles near their property to reduce flooding damage.
