Record Strike prize won

The largest ever Lotto Strike prize of $1.76 million was won last night.

The lucky ticket, worth $1,764,676, was sold in Drury, south of Auckland.

The previous largest prize was $1.46m won by two players, from Cambridge and Upper Hutt, in November 1997.

The biggest individual strike win was $1.45m in October 1993 by a Waitakere ticket.

New Zealand Lotteries chief executive Todd McLeay said the record amount was reached in seven weeks thanks to a recent Powerball jackpot run and high Lotto Strike sales.

Three other Lotto players, in Papakura, Waipu and Hamilton, each won $666,667 in Lotto First Division.

Lotto Powerball jackpotted this week to an estimated $6m next Saturday.
