Another toddler has been run over by a car in a driveway this morning - the second in two days.
The 21-month-old girl suffered serious head injuries after she was run over by the car leaving a kohanga reo at a marae near Bowentown, 7km southeast of Waihi Beach, about 8.15am, said Sergeant Dave Litton of Waihi police.
The girl was taken to Tauranga Hospital and was in a serious but non-life threatening condition, he said.
The accident followed closely the death of two-year-old Isabella Thompson, killed after being run over in the driveway of her Waikato home yesterday. Her father was heading off to a building job when he backed over her.
Another child was injured in a similar incident in Hamilton two weeks ago when run over by a relative's car, Mr Litton said.
"We're talking about very, very high stakes here.
"Take your time, check your mirrors and if in doubt check it out - even if it means exiting your vehicle," Mr Litton said.
