Several injured in North Island crashes

Two people were injured in motorcycle accidents yesterday.

The first, an Eketahuna man in his 50s, crashed down a bank about 2pm yesterday while at a motorcycle enduro riding competition, at Kaitawa, east of Pahiatua, a Palmerston North-based rescue helicopter spokesman said.

The man was then airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital with moderate injuries.

Later that afternoon, a Wanganui man in his 50s was injured when he lost control of the road motorcycle he was riding - crashing through a fence and down a bank.

The group he was riding with went back to find him.

He was also airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital with moderate injuries.

Meanwhile, a man became trapped in his car, after it rolled on State Highway 1 near Waiouru yesterday evening.

Emergency services extracted the man in his 50s from the wreckage, before he was airlifted to Wanganui Hospital with serious injuries, a Palmerston North based rescue helicopter spokesman said.

A female passenger in the vehicle was also taken to Wanganui Hospital by ambulance, with moderate injuries.
