A shooting that wounded a person near Rotorua tonight is thought to be accidental.
The shooting happened at Ngongotaha, near Rotorua, about 7pm.
A police northern communications spokesman said a person was reported to have suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.
Ambulance personnel were treating the victim and police had seized a firearm.
"Witnesses at the address say the shooting was accidental," the spokesman said.
