Taiwan tourist killed in Haast crash

Police investigating a crash on the Haast Pass have confirmed the identity of a Taiwan tourist killed yesterday.

Yi-Chieh Feng (30) was a passenger in a rental car being driven by a 31-year-old man, also from Taiwan, police said.

The driver was not seriously injured in the crash which happened near Mimi Creek, at the eastern end of Lake Moeraki in Westland, shortly after 10am.

A serious crash investigation has begun to establish the cause of the crash.

Ms Feng's has been referred to the Coroner, police said today.

Police have asked anyone who was driving on SH6 between Fox Glacier and Haast Pass yesterday between 6am and 10am to contact them.

Officers hoped to discuss road conditions with other motorists as part of the investigation.
