Teen accused of armed robbery granted bail

A teenager accused of raiding a Christchurch dairy armed with an axe has been granted bail today.

Quade Mihaere Kavanagh (18) is accused of breaking into Campus Corner Dairy in Riccarton yesterday.

It's alleged that he was with others who are yet to be identified.

Nothing was taken during the alleged robbery, Christchurch District Court heard today.

Kavanagh appeared from custody this morning.

He was remanded on bail without plea to September 20.

Police are investigating a second aggravated robbery of a Curletts Rd dairy at around 1pm yesterday.

A man entered the store with an axe and demanded money from the shop assistant before fleeing, police say.

Police have obtained CCTV footage from the Curletts Rd robbery and would like help from the public to identify the male in the footage.

Police are working with shop staff who were shaken by the events.

Police believe the two robberies could be related.
